Working With Young Adults

Overview
Working With Young Adults is a BPS-accredited CPD course designed for professionals supporting 18 to 25-year-olds in mental health and wellbeing services. Co-designed with young adults, carers, and practitioners, the course helps participants understand the unique developmental needs of this age group — especially during transitions between child and adult services. It combines psychological insight with practical, evidence-based strategies to enhance communication, engagement, and support.
Who this course is for:
- Mental health professionals supporting young adults
- Staff working in transition pathways or crisis services
- Voluntary sector practitioners
- Early intervention and community teams
- Anyone working with 18–25s in health, education, or social care
Structure and CPD hours:
- 1 x self-paced e-learning module (approx. 3 hours)
- 1 x live webinar session (approx. 3 hours)
- Participants must complete both components to receive their CPD certificate.Â
- Once you’ve signed up for a webinar slot you will receive the e-learning material to complete in advance
- Total CPD time: 6 hours
- The course is approved by the British Psychological Society for the purposes of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
After this course, you will:Â
- Recognise young adulthood (18–25) as a distinct developmental stage
- Understand how trauma, identity formation, and transitions impact engagement
- Adjust communication styles to build more effective, developmentally appropriate relationships
- Apply psychologically-informed strategies in everyday practice
- Reflect critically on how services can better meet the needs of young adults
- Understand the role of neurodiversity in shaping support and service planning
Cost and access
- If you work in a statutory or voluntary sector service supporting young adults in Kent and Medway, you may be eligible for a fully funded place through the Kent and Medway Integrated Care Board.
